2011 F250 4x4 problems

Hey, It's been a while since I've been on here. But I have a 2011 F250 6.2L and right now the 4x4 doesn't seem to work. I'm not able to turn one of the hubs, but the other one does, and when you put it in 4x4 the front wheels won't lock up so the back tires continue to spin. With winter here and some things to you I'm hoping to get it fixed asap. Just curious if anyone has any ideas on where to look? The truck previously had a trailer brake installed, and when the guy sold it he just cut the wires and took it out. So not sure if that would be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just fixed my bro in law's 2006 F350. No four wheel drive either. I found one hub seized and actually rusty inside. If only one hubs actually locks internally, you won't get any action from the front wheels, as the power coming from front drive shaft goes to the path of least resistance...the side that isn't locked...even though you might think it is.

So, I'd say that you need to pull both hubs apart and clean/service them.

This is just one video I found on YouTube: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=rgWl4qUW9P8. I'm sure there is many more.

Hub locks are dirt cheap, about ~ $75 from the dealer when I last put one on a customer's truck. All the same, can't recall if that was a vacuum lock or a manual type.

FWIW, if you are 'unable to turn' one of the hubs and you have an auto vacuum lock system then the whole works is likely toast due to debris, corrosion and dirt intrusion: hub, both inner seals, hub lock and seals, vacuum lines, 4x solenoid, 4x vacuum regulator. These systems do not take well to contamination.

If you are unable to turn one of the hubs and it is a manual shift then just slap a new lock in there and go on your merry way.
