4r100 or c6?????????

i have a 2003 superduty i tore the 5.4l out and am in turn replacing it with a 460ci carburated powerplant. Now my question is the truck has a 4r100 in it factory so i know theres electronics for the 4r100 will i have to run the ecu just for the 4r100 or do they have there own seperate computer that can run standalone my next option is a c6 which originally came off the 460 i am building but its a 2wd which i will convert over to 4wd but from what im reading the 4r100 is a better tranny. thanks in advance any help with the computer problem is GREATLY APPRECIATED

I think you should be fine with the C6. but a bigblock E4OD/4R100 would be cool in case you want to drive down the road at some time. If you are looking for a bigblock 4wd E4OD I have a core one still on the back of an EFI 460. previous owner blew a line and trans worked but lazy after repaired.

if you are going to use the C6 , try and find a diesel C6 for the close ratio internals.

another idea for you.........7.3 idi computer and wiring harness for the E4OD, all you need is a tach sensor and throttle position sensor(FIPL valve on the 7.3) those are pretty easy on a carbed 460...................

that's the combo I want to put into my little E150 shorty van.

5.4 bell housing is totally different than your 460. An E4OD is the closest thing to a 4r100. But you still need a standalone computer to run an electronic trans. C6 is easiest.

Why not EFI the 460? You might actually pass a gas station. As for bolting the 4r100 to the 460, it can be done. You just need the right adapter kit. The E4OD is the better candidate.
