Front air dam on Super Duties ?

Does anyone know what the function is for the front air dam under the front bumper on super duty trucks is? If it's for cooling air flow is it important to have, my truck is missing it and I am going to tow.

Garage
I'll bet the dam is there for fuel economy reasons, more than cooling reasons. Should be able to find them from auto wreckers pretty cheap.

if it's on the bottom of the bumper it's about areodynamics and apperance
if it's on the bottom of the rad cradle below it's aboiut deflecting more air into the rad

It also deflects air to the brakes.
