new F450's

anyone have experiences with a new F450 , looking to sell my 2002 F450 and purchase a 2018
the weight carrying bothers me a bit a my 2002 can carry 15000 lbs and the 2018 is 14000 lbs
I have a good sized bigfoot camper that is heavy
Also wondering about the diesel engine is the same one ford has been using for some time or another test case

Firstly, welcome to the site.

Secondly very nice F-450 you have there. Gotta say, you are probably the only guy here with a 450...so you might have a hard time getting the info you want. I personally have an '05 F-350 dually, and used to haul a heavy slide in camper, but traded that for a fifth wheel. Hopefully you will hang out with us here, but you may have to look at other sites for info on the beastly 450's. one other site I am a member of, is thedieselstop.com...it's much larger and, being a diesel site, it pertains more to the Super Duty models and I'm sure you find a lot of good information there. Good luck.

Can't help you on the load capacity but can tell you the current 6.7 Powerstroke has been in use since 2011 with tweaks along the way.

6.7L Power Stroke Diesel Specs & Info Will tell you a lot about the engine.

My problems i haul a Bigfoot camper and with the 2002 f450 i am 400 lbs over weight with a gvwr of 15000lbs
The new f450 2018 gvwr is 14000 lbs so if the truck is not lighter i will be overweight by 1400 lbs

Have you talked to a dealer?

From the Ford website in regard to the weight of the truck.

F450 DRW 4x2 - 3747kg 8261lbs
F450 DRW 4x4 - 3901kg 8600lbs

Thanks for finding the weight, i will compare that to my 2002 f450, sounds like the 2018 might be lighter and therefore with my camper it will not exceed the total weight rating, but sounds real close.
Talking to a dealer has not been that good, dealers knowledge is not very good especially if they sell more cars than trucks and when it comes to f450 it gets vague.
The weight of the2018 leaves me a payload max of 5400 lbs , i will look up the camper weight but it sounds close.
I should have total weight of the camper documented, i also have a rear carriage where my spare is stored and its 200lbs

I had a slide in 9 1/2' slide in camper (Columbia River) that was a "basement" model. It would be considered a heavy camper, and that's why I ended up buying a dually F-350. It weighed 3300 pounds...I have never seen a camper come in at over 4000 lbs, so I'm sure you will have a lot of room, staying under allowable total weight.

My dually (real world) weight is 8600 lbs...plus 3300 lb camper = 11900 lbs. 1100 lbs under the allowable 13000 lb limit. I did weigh the truck with, and without the camper to get the "official" weights, at a local scale.
