Another Tranny

Tranmission # 3 . I have lost all hope in Canadian custom built transmissions. The last tranny was built around my mods and I was told it would out last my engine. I'm only pulling 7000lbs in the summer. Have the tru cool 20000lb tranny cooler. But yet as I'm over 1000km past the warranty it has failed again. The first one was from MR. Transmission with the tugger kits ect. The second was from a cust build shop Praire Transmission in Grande Praire. That being said I will be ordering one from ATS or BTS transmission out of the states. There is also a guy John Woods Transmission as well I am considering. There is my venting for the day. My truck is parked now until may. The oil patch is slow right now and money is tight. I may even sell the thing.

Too bad man, you would think there would be a better warranty than 1000k. That sucks. I dread the day day I lose a tranny, especially an auto. I'm sure I could rebuild a manual without any trouble, but the auto's seem too complicated for me. I'm a member on thedeiselstop.com, and many of those guys talk about the BTS trans being a top one. You might want to have a look there for info. Good luck.

Thanks man. I also posted on powerstroke.org and I was informed the BTS is one of the best as well. I also seen in Four Wheeler magazine the John Woods Transmission he has got great reviews as well. ATS has a 5yr 500,000 mile warranty which ever comes first but it will cost over 7grand when everything is said and done.

Nope. Just the 4" exhaust. Cold air intake and the Tony Wildman tunes.

Do not go with ATS!, BTS and both John Woods build great transmissions but BTS would be my first choice. NADP in edmonton builds awesome 5r100's, just have never heard anything about there 4r100 but that could be an option as well

He said he was 1000k OVER the warranty.

PSD911- do you do alot of backing up with heavy loads/trailers on the truck. I remember a discussion on this some time ago about how fast the r4100's build up heat in reverse. I'm trying to figure out why some guys eat transmissions like breakfast and others "appear" to be bullet proof. Maybe it's production tolerances that cause good ones & bad ones, I don't know.
I put over 300K on my 99.5 and traded the truck without a hint of trouble in the trans and I worked that truck hard, a lot of heavy towing miles at 100-120kph but usually only backing the trailers into places on relatively level solid surfaces. I had a tuner on my 03 7.3L, again traded it with no trans trouble.
Maybe it's got to do with using the truck around town a lot with the convertor contantly locking & unlocking?
Who knows, anyways, good luck with it, my understanding is BTS is the #1 choice for most people.

No I the only backing up I do is parking the RV or the quad trailer. I have also heard the 4r100's heat up fast in reverse, I was curious about that. From what I gather from other sites is BTS is the best choice as well. Thanks guys for all the nfo.

Well guys I talked to the gang at NADP and they say they have a transmission that will work best for me and it has a 25000 km warranty. That sounds a little better than the 2000 I got from Prairie Transmission. I'll once I get it all installed I'll let you know how it performs. Cheers
