2001 sport trac

well I had looked at 7 of them already, #8 was the one!

really nice body , vinyl floor mats, cloth manual seats. broken 4.0 T chain. not cool but put it in my price range

will be looking into doing the Tchain myself , but its getting fullsize axles and a steering box! IFS&rack goodbye .

I'll try and get some pics up but lately not much luck.

want to keep it street legal but not much road use on asphalt.

dana 60 front, dana70 rear, tires 35-37" no more.

Been watching a 5.0 Explorer limited on kijiji since Jan 12th, price kept dropping until I made an offer over the phone. I was disappointed in its condition but it runs and shift nice so I went $200 lower than my over the phone offer, it wasn't even running until I boosted it.
its a 1999 limited AWD (only way the 5.0 came) 279,000km , will be the powerplant donor for my sport trac. cheap enough I can take what I want and scrap the rest.

have to get the 2nd bay in the 2car cleared out and cats now in the shed so I can tear into the sport trac's powerplant.

nice to get a good deal on something when cash is short. I was borrowing from my shop fund just to buy it

cheers James

well I stumbled into another 99 EXP 5.0 AWD, for only a few $$ more. it looks like better shape but hard to tell from pics. it has mechanical issues but all stuff I have the parts for. seller cannot do the work himself so it has to go . 2.5 hrs away but Sunday is supposed to be a sunny one so its a day trip with the trailer, good family time

cheers James

edit: oh yeah I forgot , this one has a rebuilt trans 1.5 yrs ago

got it home , Barney pulled it flawlessly. only used 1/2 tank round trip, a lot less fuel than I expected for 460km . I think the 7.3 powerstroke gets better with age if you service it.

the AWD 5.0 has 382,000km , a binder full of receipts and warranties from 140,000 to the present. complete trans rebuild at 270,000 including a new TC. rear end was just rebuilt at 374,000km including new axleshafts.

doing a quicky 5 min safety I found a L outer tie rod end(popped open) , a PS leak at input to rack or a hose at the rack, and a muffler. pretty sound otherwise. wish I would have found this last fall> may have beat it for the winter. D'OH yeah its a rotten pile

I'll decide what to do with it by wed.

It's the most common way they came...but not the only way. The donor for my '87 Crown Vic 2-door project was a 1996 4-door Explorer XLT 2WD 5.0L out of Fort Erie. Not supposed to exist according to most Explorer enthusiasts!

EDIT: the Limited AWD may have been the only way a GT40P equipped engine (1997-01) was available, as compared to the GT40 (1996-mid 1997).
