2012 Escape Door Chime/Gear shift issue??

Recently visited my Ford dealer with an "unusual" problem.

My wife drives the 2012 Escape, and she would complain about coming home or going to work and when she would park the truck, turn off the ignition, removed the key, gets out of the seat and the chime for the door/ignition/lights on is ringing, and when she locks the doors, they unlock again.

Last night when she came home I met her and she showed me what was happening.

Curiosity got the better of me, and I reached in to push the gear shift forward thinking it was not in park.

When I grabbed the shifter, I pressed the release button and the chiming stopped, and the doors would lock.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

You just pushed the release button? You didn't move the shifter?
