2016 Explorer XLT Rear window exploded

Anyone else have this issue. My wife was sitting in the vehicle at the time it exploded, it happened early in the evening, -8 degrees while parked . Ford does not want to help us under any warranty or defect.

Tough deal, I've had rocks in the windshield, two windshields in less than a week, the one barely lasted 45 minutes, but no exploding rear glass, and no coverage from Ford.

Just curious if rear defrost was on. Have you talked to Ford or just the dealer?

Such is life. Just passing through.

I was going to ask about the rear defrost too. I’ve read on other forums about this happening to others. Some guys even disconnected their defrost so it doesn’t happen to them.

I think the dealers are hit and miss on coverage. Just depends on the dealer i guess.

On some other forums I've read about F150 rear windows exploding. Most have to do with rear defrost.

Ironically, my neighbour's brother in law was driving into work and the rear window on his 2015 Edge Sport had the same failure, guy said it sounded like a shotgun blast.

Luckily, he didn't cause an accident, he's shook up, but ok, scary shit.

Booked my wifes 2015 Edge in for repairs on Monday, sounds like its a known issue, corrosion gets into the rear defrosting causes a short.

Worth a call, there is a dealer service fix available.

they probably need to go back to the old style window adhesive .. the flexible kind

I'm presuming the butal adhesive is probably to rigid to allow the glass to expand with the heat of the defroster on

My apologies for not replying with the outcome from Ford and the Dealership on this.
Ford gave me some issues on assisting with this initially but they eventually caved and took care of it but I did have to pay a deductible towards my Premium Care Warranty. The dealership contracted out the repair to a local glass shop and they did find that the adhesive or the rear window had a gap to the rear hatch door frame and possibly the defrost had also contributed to the rear glass exploding.
