I asked the guy's at wheel wizzards in Hamilton about re chroming my wheels because of
some discolouration on the inner rim . They told me it would be cheaper to replace the wheels.
I would like to get a second opinion.

Never had it done, but like a lot of things these days, it wouldn't surprise me if it was cheaper to buy new than have them re-finished.

I'd almost be inclined to say you'd have a better chance of a stronger quality of finish on new wheels anyway.

Unless you had a set of hard to find wheels that you absolutely loved, and then, really, cost is just a matter of how much you love them.

I'll ask around, but I'd look under auto restoration. Bumpers on rare vehicles quite often need it when being restored. I do know it is cost prohibitive. I think there is a re-chroming plant in Hamilton, but I'm not sure of the name or exactly where it is.

id be more inclined to think the rechroming would be of better quality then the brand new wheels. manufactures are always looking to cut costs. cheaper chrome.,

I know the chrome on these 09+ f150 bumpers is pretty cheap. I had to get my last truck's bumper replaced twice because of rusting thru the chrome. less then 30k on first. less the 20k on second.

Never considered the new chrome to be of lesser quality than re-chroming.

I was considering that new chrome is applied to a, for lack of a better word, virgin surface.

Re-chroming would involve stripping the old finish off, so I was thinking impurities on the surface from less than adequate work practices.

Point taken.

Yikes....$300 each for steel and $700 each for aluminum. Painful, but depends on how bad you want it done I suppose.
