Rim refinishing

Hey all!

I am looking for more info about refinishing rims.

I have the opportunity to purchase 4 used 15" Ranger aluminum rims (the 8-hole ones on the FX4. Alcoa rims?), however the stock clear coating is peeling. I was thinking that I might go for the "black-out" effect and have these powder coated black if the price is reasonable. Not 100% sure yet because I also finally found the 16" rims i've been after for a decent price, so ..... weighing options.

Anyone have anything to mention about this, things to watch out for? What does Ford use to clear coat these? Is it just clear paint like what's used on the body?

Let me know please. Thanks!

I stripped & polished a set of aluminum rims for my last truck (my '04) I did not re-clear coat them but only ran them in the summer. They look much better bare, but there is some hand polishing involved once in a while. There is a pic of one of them on my link below on the 2004 page if you are interested. If you want to run them year round, they would have to be re-coated of coarse or painted.
