Magellan RoadMate FD71

Anyone have any opinions on this GPS - how does mapping of Canada compare with other GPS systems .I currently have Tom Tom One XL?

I would rate Garmin as #1
Magellan as #2
Both have the best mapping of canada
Pioneer would be #3
if that helps

I absolutely despise Magellan! Two of the guy's at work have one and they always get me to set it up with Mapsend.....Magellen has brutal software to work with, alway issues not user friendly at all, you have to start entering serial numbers, size limits area limits, blablabla, but if you work at it it can be done, just don't forget how like I did, or you have to figure it all out again....

Garmin all the way simple plug and play, software is compatible with Goggle Earth, any Garmin GPS with or without mapping capabilities, very easy to use (unit and software) Awesome overall..

If you need to, pay extra get Garmin, IMO

I only drive in the city, to get out of it!!!

I've been using a Magellan (3225) for a good 6-7 months now and have had completely the opposite experience of what Bushaholic just mentioned.

I've found mine to be incredibly user-friendly, and it's mapping of Canada is excellent, I'm consistently impressed by how fast roads are updated (new roads added with construction or road re-alignments). I picked it over the Garmin because the Magellan has faster route calculating software, so when take a wrong it re-plans your route in matter of seconds-the Garmin apparently takes much longer.

Are you planning using this on or off road? That would probably make a difference to as I think the Garmin is probably better suited to bush use....

My two cents

ive had my garmin for about 15 months, extremely simple and accurate, no problems at all so far, and it has had quite of bit of use in edmonton by the girlfriend, and on our trips back and forth between pei and alberta. go garmin if you can, theyre really not that much more if you get it on sale! happy exploring!
