LayinHP. Because they were fishing Conservation Officers are allowed to enter and check to ensure they are obeying the conservation laws without warrant. RCMP are ex-efficio Conservation Officers, in virtually all provinces in Canada, and as such can also enforce Conservation Laws. Under the same token RCMP are ex-efficio Liquor Inspectors too ... hence can enforce Liquor Laws. So no. No warrant required . . .

jdcrush .... I would guess it was a planned operation, or some sort of special initiative. Its not like the Conservation Officers and RCMP do this all the time, b/c if they did it wouldn't be news ! haha. And like there are "traffic" cops I'd guess there are special cops to deal with this type of stuff too.
