I've been toying with the idea of getting a crate engine, Mod-ing the p*ss out of it over a year or 2 and then dropping it in Betsie. Maybe something like http://www.thehorsepowershop.com/03-...ate-motor.html adding a bigger turbo, tuner, oil bypass and cooler, coolant bypass filter, bulletproof ERG etc. That would most likely be a $12k unit when it is done. I think i'd rather have hoped up 12K 6.0l than start out dropping 12k on an un-modded Cummins

I have yet to have a major issue with my truck. So it makes the decision hard. I don't have a tuner, have open exhaust with stacks, i do abuse Betsie pretty hard so if she was gonna break she'd have done it by now.

Got 350k on her right now, I am the 2nd owner of the truck had it 2 years so far, never looked under the valve covers to see if it has studs or not. I'm assuming she has had something added to keep her running top notch.

I'm looking for a reliable OTR truck and honestly, I would rather the Cummins for better reliability (hopefully), plus more room for service under the hood. I get what your saying, a modded 6.0 would be sweet but I think we are after 2 diffrent goals: I want reliable and lowest cost per km to maintain, not ultimate performance.

I have been through 2 egr coolers, 3 egr valves, head gaskets, map , maf, 1 injector and IPC sensor so far (all under warrabty thank god). I think the continual heavy towing at high speeds must have something to do with it because I maintain the sheeite out of it. Boatloads of Rotella T, fuel filters, air filters, etc.

If I stay with the 6.0L, it will be ecomonics driven, not by preference.

I love my truck and don't want to replace it but I think I am ready to try a different engine. I have never had a Cummins but am not willing to drive a Dodge to try one.

Im probly going to rebuild, the swap looks good but finding a parts truck and not paying out the nose is the hard part and bringing a wrecked vehical across the border doesnt sound like fun (buddy with the wrecked dodge is finding this out now with the parts he's getting)

Looking at gathering parts now for mine still havent got my rms on need a lift but no one seems to get back to emails anymore (companies) sent 3 off to inquire about keeping the factory rake to the truck not a reply back and its almost been a week, anykits ive found only level the assend of the truck

Yes, I definitely think rebuilding the 6.0L is the easiest route to go. I will have to rally think this one through. I should have at least a year though so lots of time.

Try looking on e-bay. I found several nice easy to install inexpensive parts there.

Found a guy who was selling just the front lift/leveling kit etc. Mine now at 4.5" lift with e-bay gear.

Cheers,
Axe.

problem with the ebay kits is you get the spacers for the front and thats about it (on a leveling kit) when you lift the coil sprung trucks you need to drop the panhand bar to keep it correct its all extra....

still no replies on the emails cant believe a well knowen company would not reply...

Betsie is a leaf truck no front coils

My kit was new springs and shackles.

In my work i deal with that all the time. It is a sales tactic, they force you to call and then a sales guy can then try and up-sell you. It is ridiculous.

Go to an e test shop and ask what the test is for diesels. I think it's just a smoke test. If thats the case. Get a low mile 6.0, Do an EGR Delete and if you want to really boost up the power then install ARP headstuds. That will give you a pretty reliable engine. I did the delete in my 03 and what a difference. I'm gonna do the 07 soon as well.

I purchased my first diesel 2 years ago. It is a 6.0. I did a ton of reading and a ton of shopping. Rebuild the 6.0, it will be way cheaper than the swap. I know of 2 fantastic Ford diesel mechanics. 1 in T.O. and the other here in Kitchener. Leave the bottom end alone, its fine the way it is. Get all your parts together. Lift the cab and change out the few fatal flaws that the 6.0 has. Knowing the flaws is the most important part! I cannot emphasize enough to shop, shop, shop. Its usually cheaper and better to piece together your combination. If you want more power it is fairly easy to get with the cab off. There is so much to learn on these! Right down to the type of filters and where to get them. Full list for a Ford fuel filter kit is over $90.00. You can buy the filters from the same company that makes them for Ford for 1/3. I am super happy with my truck and all the modifications I have made. Feel free to ask me anything about my combination. I am no expert, but I have learned a lot and asked enough experts to feel confident in my 6.0..........Hillz
