Thumbs up changing glow plugs?

When changing the glowplugs on my 2000 Excursion 7.3L PSD, is it better to warm up the engine before attempting to take out the old plugs? I was told that I could break the old plugs if I didn't warm up the engine first. Is that true?

never heard tell of that one, just take them out and put the new ones in

i've never had one break off,pulling them out hot wouldn't be fun because there under the valve covers.

I have a 2000 f550 with a 7.3 powerstroke.I was told I have a plenum heater rather than glowplugs.

???? shouldn't have plenum heater instead of glow plugs,will have a air inlet heater for after eng started but will still need to heat cylinders.

if you have a 7.3 you have both an intake plenum heater, that is the big wired connection coming from what looks like a GPR to the intake y shaped plenum air intake and glow plugs individually inserted int each of the eight cylinders.
