Mods & Loss of Fuel Economy

I own a 2008 F-250 Supercab 4x4 with the 5.4L engine. I recently installed a Flowmaster single exhaust as well as an Air Raid Cold Air Intake. The truck went from 22L/100km average to 17L/100km with these installed. The truck gained a decent amount of power as well.
I then had the Catalytics emptied on the advice of the local mechanic. I am now at 20L/100km and it seems i have lost a bit of the new power as well. Is this due to a loss of Backpressure, or is there something else going on.
Overall I am happy with the changes but I was really looking to keep the substantial gain in fuel economy. Should I be looking at a tuner now, or will the tuner not give me the fuel millage increase either?

I'm thinking you are probably running bit lean now and tuner should help but lets see who else has an opinion on this.

Such is life. Just passing through.

Instead of gutting your cats should have just put some hi flow ones on and get a custom tune

5.4L Gas Milage questions

Thanks. I did not know about high flow Cats. The local mechanic said he had gutted alot of Cats in Chevs but not that many 5.4L Fords around, all Diesels. Seemed like a good idea as there would be no restrictions.
The truck is running great and now that I have driven for 700km, the milage is definately better than before the upgrades, power is very good as well. Truck used to shift out of overdrive constantly even with a strong headwind. This does not happen anymore, very happy bout that.
Anybody know which is the best Tuner for the 5.4L, and will it hurt my transmission?

Fix the cats. Your screwing up your O2 sensors.

Is there two or four o2 censors on the 5.4? Cuz on my 4.6 I'm not running cats and was told the rear sensors are used just for testing to make sure the cats are working the have no effect on the motor performance at all I even ran with out them for a day

the only things holding you back are fear and common sense

As for a tuner you can go with a SCT or a Superchip and no it won't hurt your tranny as you can adjust it also.

5.4L Gas Milage questions

So, what will happen if the O2 sensors fail? Freakin mechanic, he should replace the Cats. Thanks Lumberjack, sounds good. I was looking into Superchip.

5.4L Gas Milage questions

Hey silver. There are 4 O2 sensors on mine as well. The mechanic said that all that would happen is that my service engine light would come on, which it has. I was hoping that with a Tuner, I could reset the engine light. My engine is running like a top and my milage is still better than before. Don't really know what the long term effects will be, but if there is, the mechanic wil be paying for all of it for sure.
