Oil pressure gauge question

First some background:

I have noticed twice in the last few weeks and issue with my oil light.

Both times I was pulling into the driveway at my gf's place and the driveway slopes down slightly when you get to the garage. I saw the oil light come on but as soon as I put it in Park the light went off. The first time I didn't notice what the gauge was showing I was focused on the trouble light. The second time I saw the light I saw that the gauge was bottomed out. As soon as I put it in Park again the light went out and the gauge went back to the normal position.

I checked the oil this morning before starting the truck and the dip stick was bone dry. I checked it 3 times. I put in 3L of oil and it's back up to the Max mark. The last oil change was in May, 5w30 Amsoil full synth. The truck has never burned 3L of oil in 1 year and its only been 8 months since the last change.

I've noticed that when I turn the key to the ON position but not cranking the truck over the Volt gauge, Fuel gauge & Temp gauge all go full sweep but the oil gauge stays bottomed out.

I did a quick check for leaks and I didn't see any and I park in the same spots at work, home and gf's I haven't seen any indication of a leak. No leak visible on/under or around the oil filter. The only place I haven't had a chance to check it the oil pan plug itself.

Question:

I've never paid attention to this action before so my question is, is the oil gauge working normally or is there an issue? It even acts this way after I added the oil and the dipstick says Max.

Is this the first time you have used amsoil? I have noticed on some older engines that they will burn amsoil but not Dino oil. It is hit and miss but I have seen it before on some of my customers engines.

I've been running Amsoil for 3 yrs and this is the first time I even seen it burn through this much oil, normally when I change the oil I fill the empty new bottles with the old oil. I put in 5L and when I put the old oil from the drain pan into the bottles I only fill between 4-4.5L.

Paul, what kind of shape is your pcv valve in? May be sucking through that. If your oil pressure gauge is electric instead of mechanical the sender may be going out or bad wire. If you have access to a mechanical gauge try that just to relieve or confirm the oil pressure worry. Never looked at one of those engines but is it possible it is sucking oil through a leaking intake gasket?

Such is life. Just passing through.

Last time I changed the PCV was a few years ago, its a cheap enough part to change out. I don't know if the sender is elec. or mech. I'll take a look in my manuals. All the intake gaskets were replaced 5 years ago to prevent the H-lock issues these motors have. At least I have some direction now on fixing this issue.

Gauge is still bottomed out until the motor starts, just wonder if thats normal or not?

If it's factory, it will be electric in nature. Check it with a proved working mechanical guage from the same port. Running 3L short in today's day and age does not bode well for bearings. Quick cheap test is to try running 20W50 in it and see if the pressure does any better.

I hooked up my programmer today and checked for codes and it came back clean. I'll be keeping a close eye on it for the rest of the winter.

All well and good Paul but how is the oil pressure and are you still losing oil somewhere?

On board computers don't detect mechanical problems. Like, oil leaks, bearing play, and loss of compression.

I checked the oil every few days and so far it doesn't look like there is any loss. I have not found any external leaks at all. Oil pressure has been reading normal so far.
