My brother had that happen to him when we were going to see our younger brother in Ky about a year ago!!! My brother's truck is a 01 F-250 with the V10 engine. The real bad thing it happen on I-75 going about 120km in middle of Ohio!!!! Let just say he was not a very happy person when that happen!!! We were still a few hours away from our brother house and he decieded to have a local Ford dealer do it in the town it happen in. He knew it wasn't going to be cheap for a new head it wasn't!!! We rented a car so we could go see our brother in Ky and you might be asking why we rented a car. WELL....this happen like a day before New years Eve and the dealer couldn't take a good look until after New Years. It took the dealer over a week to finish the truck!!!

That sucks! The worst part is Ford refuses to reconize this as a problem, it has happened to literally thousands of 5.4 engines. When you design a head with only 4 threads holding a plug in???
Have heard that Timesert is the way to go as SKRWZ said.

After getting back and got to checking in the net and found what you said about not reconzing the problem with the spitting plug in the 5.4l and the V10's!!!

The 2003 and 2004 heads had 8 spark plug threads so less chance of them blowing out on those ones

Yes the 8 thread heads are okay. Which brings up the point of why did Ford deside to switch back to them in 03 and up from the 4 thread heads, but yet won't admit there was ever a problem. This has been a huge issue in the Lightning community.
