4.0 won't start

It ran fine yesterday on the way to work and back and one more short trip after that. Then it would not start last night. It turns over but will not fire. It is getting spark and I cleaned the CPS but am buying a new one tomorrow, also changed the fuel filter. I am also going to check and make sure it's getting fuel tomorrow by pulling the fuel line off the filter and cranking the engine. Any suggestions? Sure hope it's not the fuel pump.

Frozen fuel line?

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump ? Being the year of your truck I'm thinking it's the fuel pump. if not there should be a push button switch to reset it, try again if nothing than your fuel pump maybe toast.

Tried the fuel pump relay from my sisters Explorer (96) and no go.

It's been parked in the garage for 24hrs now and fuel came out of the filter, maybe a line after the filter frozen? I'll put a heater under it in the morning.

No I don't hear the pump when I turn the key on. Are you talking about the fuel pump shut off switch? I'll check it again tomorrow.

Probably the pump but I'm gonna try the new CPS first. REALLY not looking forward to dropping the tank lol So if fuel comes out of the line when I crank the engine with the line dissconected from the filter the pump is good right?

If you want to check the fuel system, probably an easier way is to connect a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the fuel rail under the hood. This would tell you:

1) that the pump is producing sufficient pressure to operate with the injectors

2) that you're getting fuel through to at least the fuel rail.

Another thing to check is the gas cap. It should be relieving the vacuum in the tank. In other words, you shouldn't get a "pop" when you take it off.

In the meantime, I'd pour some gas line antifreeze into the tank. Do you keep the tank over half-full in the winter?

(What's a 'CPS'?)
