#700 career start for Martin: Mark Martin will make his 700th career Sprint Cup start this weekend when the green flag drops at California Speedway, becoming only the 13th driver in NASCAR history to reach the milestone. The Principal Financial Group will serve as the sponsor of the #8 Chevrolet and will feature a paint scheme that showcases a special 700th-start logo in tribute to Martin's accomplishments. Martin started his first Cup race on April 5, 1981 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. He started fifth and finished 27th. During pre-race ceremonies at California Speedway, the Principal Financial Group and DEI will present Martin with a commemorative green flag emblazoned with the same 700th start logo that will appear on DEI's #8 Principal Financial Group Chevy. Following the race, this same green flag will be signed by Martin and auctioned on e-bay with proceeds benefitting the Dale Earnhardt Foundation. If Martin, who is running a partial schedule of 24 point races in 2008, stays on schedule he will end the year with 722 Cup starts.

I have been a fan of Marks since his ASA racing days and I hated to see him go the chevy BUT I will still route for him!!!!
I know Martin will be retiring in the near future and I just hope he doesn't wait to long to do it. I know he wants to spend alot of time with his son's (Matt) racing career. That is the main reason why Mark isn't running a full season anymore.

Come on Mark only completely anounced his retirement once, then was asked to stay on and run the 6 car for another season. Who could blame him he got a chance to drive the car for a season ...... without Viagra on it! Yes I still have the Viagra hats, shirts and jacket.:icon_redface:

As far as his part time rides now this kind of shows what Mark has been all about his whole career, helping bring some of the best talent up into the top ranks of Nascar. To pick a full time driver after Marks last full year I went with one of his hand picked drivers, Matt Kenseth..... and I get a lot less strange looks wearing my Dewalt jacket than the Viagra one. :icon_lol:

I think it was twice one at roush and than after he left roush he announced he will be back one more year pert time and he is back for another one
The best intro was with him and who was it Pamela Anderson when they did a montage of after the race and pre-race interview with both of them
