Hi all,

I'm still trying to find out when exactly was my engine built. I called Ford Canada and they have no clue since its too old. All they could tell me was the truck was built June 3, 1997 in Oakville. I know the engine was built in Windsor but the sticker on the valve cover has no date on it. So if anyone knows someone who works at the Windsor Engine plant or who knows how to interpret the engine code on the sticker I'd really appreciate the help.

The code is 7K702-CA.

I'm trying to find out for sure if I need to get the timing cover/lower intake/upper intake gaskets replaced to avoid the hydrolock issue with the 4.2Ls built before Jan. 1, 1998.

Thanks,

Paul.

Well this is a dead issue since I no longer care when the engine was made.

I took the truck into Hanfords on Wharncliffe (thanks for the recommendation Smoke :t-up: ) They replaced the intake manifold gaskets and the timing cover gasket. They also found that the PCV elbow at the intake had collapsed which prolly was causing my rough idle so they replaced it. I had them change the thermostat while they had access to it. They cleaned out all the carbon deposits on the intake and TB. They had to keep it an extra day cuz a housing bolt on the A/C compressor bracket snapped off about 9 inches inside the block.

It runs great now, its got a bit more jump from a standing start so I gotta get used to having a lighter foot :)) My rough idle is gone so I should get better fuel mileage now.

It took them about extra 6 hrs of labour beyond the quote but they were very fair and only charged me for 2 extra hours.

These guys rock!! :spz:

Now maybe I can break 18s at the track :tng

Sonds like a big job but it seems like the difference is night and day also. Glad to hear they were fair and able to rectify the problem.
