Hey guys, Got my truck for 10 months now, have 33k on it and did not have anything wrong on it so far......
I only have the normal warranty on it and was wondering if I should purchase
an extended warranty before the 12 months mark. I was looking at maybe extending the mileage on it and not the numbers of years.
And anyone knows how much?

Another one of those personal preference things Yvan - I bought an extended warranty one time, and one time only, and that was on my first F150, a '98 XL lease return with 68,000km.

I drove that truck another 100,000km with no issues whatsoever.

My personal opinion is that it's a waste of cash - the way these trucks are built, if they are regularly maintained, you should have no issues for at least the first 150,000km.

Consider that if you pay $1500 (for example), for an extended warranty, that would mean that the first $1500 on any claim you make was essentially coming out of your own pocket anyway.

To get any kind of benefit from an extended warranty, the cost of repairs would have to exceed the cost of the warranty, and for what they charge, and the dubious coverage they provide, it's a crap shoot.

Besides that, I believe you have to be careful, as a lot of these extended warranty's have nothing to do with Ford - they're a third party company, and that third party company is looking to make money, not pay warranty claims.

But, some guys like the peace of mind in knowing they're covered.

Thats bassicaly what I thought, but wanted to make sure that there were no weird issue with these truck these days.
And I'm afraid that it would be more than 1500 for it.

I have to disagree with the above poster ..

I have the extended warranty on my truck, and it has already come in handy.
Peace of mind knowing the truck is covered till 160k, than the 5 year, 100 k factory warranty.

My truck already has 100 k on it, and the rear door seals needed to be done around the window. An 02 sensor went, and they just found the upper steering arms are gone ..

All of this would of been out of my pocket if it werent for the extended warranty.

I hate to tell you, but unless you got that extended warranty for free, you already paid for those rear door seals, O2 sensor and upper steering arm when you signed up for the extended warranty.

True - it didn't come out of your pocket when it happened, you just paid for it in advance when you signed on the dotted line.

Po-tay-toe, Po-tah-toe...... if you want to kid yourself it wasn't out of pocket, go for it.

No offense intended infernobuster, but your logic escapes me.

also if you plan on doing mods to your ride then you have to think about that.
add a intake they might not warranty an engine problem. Lift or Lower and your suspension warranty is gone.

i had extended warranty (120k) on my 97 f150 it didnt pay for itself. and i hit the yearly limit at 100k
I did not get the extended warranty on the Harley and it wouldnt have paid off either as i dont drive enough to hit the kms before the years limit.

2002 Harley 95000km to date. i got in 2003 with 25k on it. 7.5 years to put 80k


Now if you drive the shit outta your vehicle then it might be worth it. i wouldn't pay more then 2000$ thou, how much does it cost?

you guys are forgeting that ford esp coverage has road side assistance and if your truck is still within the 3yr/60,000km original warranty you can get ford esp,besides do you put full coverage insurance on your truck because you plan on crashing it,or for piece of mind just in case something happens.
