Hi.
I picked up the EZ Down Tailgate Assist in the spring and now my tail gate will not open unless I force it down.
&
The screeching sound it makes when I close the tail gate is pretty impressive.

Suggestions to remedy?
Or do I just try some greese on the unit?

It sounds like you need some lube on it (the seal dried up)
Try to use some grease on it and apply thin layer of it

But thinking about it can't be more than 6 months old.

Store won't take it back? Have you tried the manufacturer? I'm seem to recall there is a warranty on those, I do believe? If there is, they should replace it. Forget about grease or oil, it's toast, you can't fix them at all. Good luck!
