I got a 77 4.9 litre inline six that I had to get the head rebuilt on. Now that it’s done I’m getting ready to put it back on and I heard that head bolts should be replaced, so I bought a set of new ones which were a pain in the ass to find around here but they are a smaller diameter than the old ones. The threads are the exact same, the only thing that is different are the shanks of the bolt. This being my first truck I’m fixing up, I’m looking for any tips on what my best option for doing the head bolts would be.

They are the newer design. They are meant to be one time use, and slightly more elastic. Be sure to follow proper torque procedure and specs.
