Hi All,

Well after getting the brake work done yesterday I found out I need 4 new shocks. I made some calls and found out that the shocks on my truck are most likely the originals.

Where is a good place to get shocks at a good price? I dont mind getting good shocks just can't afford to buy top of the line right now.

What make of shocks would be good for a daily driver that does very little heavy hauling and no towing?

Thanks,

Paul.

Paul, I don't now too much about shocks. But go to Handford Firestone on Wharncliffe(near Baseline) and talk to Jeremy or Chris, they may be able to give you a decent price on them. You can mention that you know Tim Burgess for the Ford truck club, but it probably won't make a difference in price. They generally carry Monroe shocks I beleive, I have dealt with these guys for years and they take their time and do it right.

Paul, do you ever get into Michigan at all or know anybody that does? When I was redoing the suspension on my truck, I ended up getting 1.5" coil spacers and installed them. I did not like them so I went with a lift coil instead. I also bought brand new Monroe Reflex Shocks and took them off after 100 miles since I had to go for a longer shock for the lift coil. The shocks's have he undercoating material on them, but they will clean right up.

I have the front shocks + coil spacer's if you want them, I will give you a good price.

Thanks but I don't know anyone who goes to MI and it would cost more in gas than I would probably save. I'll hold off on getting new ones until I figure out this damn squeal issue.

Thanks Tim, I'm going to hold off on getting them just yet. After getting the rear drums and shoes replaced I still have that damn squeal. Sounds like its from the front end but the Speedy guy said the front brakes were ok.

I think I'll take it somewhere else and have them check the front brakes again. I still think its that feeler thing that screeches when the pads are getting worn.

Wow, thats awesome Mi, Smoke...I'l have to wait till next month anyway since I need to put some cash aside for the gasket repairs I want done so I'll let you know well in advance. Some questions though, what are the lifters for and do I need them? Is that $50 US or Cdn, these days its about the same so either is fine with me.

Thanks.

I am assuming USD, which with the current dollar works out to $55 CDN....lol. Remember when it would have worked out to $80CDN...!

You do not need the lifts, I thought you might want to level out your truck a little bit in the front since you have 2wd like me.

They are the Daystar 1.5" Lift Spacers..... They install on top of the coil spring, they were $80 dollars brand new and I only put about 100 miles. I deciced to go with a Eibach Lift Coil and Bilstein 5100's Series Shock for the front. I left the monroe reflex on the back because I myself ran out of funds and so far they have worked fine even with the extra leaf spring I had added on.

Just let me know if you want the spacers and want the truck to sit a little high/even in the front. The spacers and shocks are not going anywhere so I am in no hurry. :IAG:

Actually I kinda like the rakish look and since I'll be changing the shocks myself I dont want to mess with taking the coil spring out. I suspect I'll be making the swap next month once I get the gaskets fixed on the engine.
Besides if I want to level out the look I'll just put weight in the box :)

Well it seems I dont need new shocks, the Speedy guys were just BSing me. Had some work done it Tuesday and the shocks are fine.

Thanks Tim I took it to Hanford and they did a great job. Replaced the front pads, rotors, grease seals, repacked the bearings and rotated the tires.

We found out why the squeal sound got louder AFTER Speedy worked on the fronts. Rat bastards bent the dust shields in just enough to rub on whatever spins. You could see fresh, shiny metal on the rusted dust shield kinda like if you took a file to it.

I would not recommend going to the Speedy on Wellington for anything, not even to let them put air in the tires.
I still can't believe the butt-head tried to say the squeal was from the driveshaft.
