4.6L engine in '98 F150; Is it possible to remove a piston from the bottom without removing the crankshaft?

This is just my spare truck while I rebuild the trany in my F350 so I don't want to spend too much $ as I will sell it once I get my F350 back on the road.

Any idea if the piston will slide by the crank & block?

Thanks

How long will a Ford 4.6 engine last?

It depends! I have driven one over 250,000 km (Approx 150,000 miles). It burnt about a quart of oil to 1000km (600 miles) but otherwise ran fine. Most of the oil consumption was through the valve seals. That would have been fairly expensive to fix, so I traded it on the new 2010 I just sold. If it was driven mostly highway miles, I have heard of them going as high as 400,000 miles. Stop and go city driving I would expect less.
