Well, it is almost time for the first change for the Lightning. I am doing this one myself, what do you run or recommend. My Screw has gone to the dealer for both changes to date, mainly because a warranty issue had come up both times.

I would go with factory
SC are very sensative to oil
True, problem with used is I don't know what is or was in there.
The dealer I bought the truck from has not been very helpful with some issues and I certainly don't want to take the truck back there. Heck they couldn't even safety it right.emb:

Dont some repair shops have the equipment to analyze the oil? They should be able to tell whether its normal or synthetic?

I have been using Quaker State semi-synthetic.

i tried quaker state "Q" last summer, 5w20. i found it turned fairly black in a short time.

I've been running with amsoil this year, 5w20 as well and oil still looks brand new after almost 5,000km's.

I'd go with full synthetic matt if you don't mind spending the extra $$, as i know 6 litres can be expensive when you change the oil a lot!!

FYI if your oil turns black that is a GOOD thing. that means it is doing its job cleaning your engine. if your oil still looks clean in 5000 km i would not use that oil again....

Mobil 1...I ran into a guy this weekend and he swore up and down about Lucas. Said his truck starts far better in colder temps, runs quieter, etc. It's available at Can Tire but says it's cheaper at some independent parts stores. One quart for every oil change. I'm gonna give it a try although I have 225,000 kms on my 4.6 and not a thing is smoking...yet.
