Not running that combo but the only problem I could foresee would be that annoying light being on all the time.

If you still carry the stock spare, maybe your tire shop could mount all the TPMS in that one rim...

i have a set of wheels with no sensors and like the above post said the only pain in the ass is the annoying light in the dash but I have an idea to remedy that issue. I will be installing all the sensors in my spare tire then no matter what the light will never be on when I do my wheel swaps

 

I am planning to put on new winters without TPMS. If that light gets annoying, I will be using black tape.

Sorry to bust your bubble guys, but I don't think the spare tire idea will work.

The sensors go to "sleep" to save battery power and wake up when they detect rotational movement. I don't think being mounted in the spare tire will be sufficient motion.

 

Makes sense, but does that also mean that they have batteries in them that will need replacing at some point?

It never occurred to me that they might have batteries in them but that's logical-I guess they need to get power somehow...

 

I've got a set of 2010 F150 18" take-offs. that came with sensors and they mount to the inside of the valve stem.

so i guess it depends on the type you have.
why not price it out at ford how much to reprogram the new set?

 

I was planning on using my OEM 17"s as winters and get a nice set for summer. Some of the aftermarkets I was looking at will not accept a valve mounted TPMS. IF I do get a set that will accept the TPMS I will get a set for the new rims but was wondering what are the implications if I can't mount a set

 

I had to buy a set of sensors when I kept my old rims on my '09 Ranger.

The bands that mount are about $25 apiece, and the sensors with tire mounting ran me about $400.00.

 

Bought a set for my '09 winter steel 17's and they priced out at less than $50 each.

Can't see why you wouldn't bother getting some to avoid the hassles, unless they didn't mount up on a set of aftermarket wheels.

What's the deal with dumping the TPMS's? Cost?

 

I've been using metal valve stems with the rubber insert not plastic,and tire pressure hasn't changed from summer to winter on old '99. Don't want my tires PMSing if there that much trouble....Ogre

 

i have no idea about fords on this subject. but i have a sierra work truck and its constantly telling me low pressure blah blah on the dash. I hate it.

 

Huh. I had the same problem with a Sierra work truck. It seemed to go off pretty randomly. It would say the left-rear would be low, or something. I'd check the tires with a gauge, and they'd be all within spec. I never could figure out why it happened.

Didn't seem to be related to how cold it was out, or anything else, as far as I could tell. Just finnicky, I guess. Maybe it's just to trick us into checking the tires with a proper gauge once in a while?

 

All this makes me so happy that my 150 does not have tpms.
